WORK HORSE is a hand-crafted all-caps display typeface inspired by old wood type, letterpress printing, general store signage, job printing and the mismatched letterforms found in old type cases. Made from scratch by hand.
Chunky, practical and deliberately imperfect, Work Horse takes its cues from the hardworking display type once used for shop signs, advertisements, packaging, broadsides, catalogues and everyday commercial print. Letter widths shift, serifs change and individual characters have their own peculiarities, giving the alphabet the feeling of being assembled from a box of old printing blocks rather than perfectly constructed on screen.
The result is sturdy, characterful and a little odd — somewhere between an old letterpress proof, a general store sign and a collection of mismatched wood type pulled from a printer's case.
