Tumbleweed is a hand-drawn display typeface inspired by old-time country music, Western radio, weathered signage and the imperfect lettering of vintage American print ephemera.
Drawn entirely by hand with a marker, Tumbleweed has an unusual musical rhythm. Thick and thin strokes sit alongside unexpected proportions, wandering curves and irregular letterforms, creating a sense of movement that feels almost like a melody. Each character has its own personality, but together they find a wonderfully loose and natural harmony.
There's something nostalgic about Tumbleweed — old radio broadcasts, mountain ballads, country record sleeves, handwritten notices, roadside signs and forgotten dance halls. The lettering feels familiar but difficult to place exactly, somewhere between early wood type, handmade sign painting and the spirited typography of American folk music.
Rather than recreating a traditional Western typeface, Tumbleweed embraces the imperfections of lettering made by hand. Uneven weights, unexpected shapes and slightly awkward details are all part of its character. It's expressive, rhythmic and deliberately unpolished.
