Parade is a hand-crafted display typeface inspired by vintage banners, parade graphics, rock & roll ephemera, hand-painted signs and the bold, playful lettering of 1960s and 70s print. All made from scratch by hand.
Parade takes its underlying skeleton from my earlier typeface Peace Block, but sends it marching in an entirely different direction. Where Peace Block draws from protest graphics and woodblock printing, Parade turns those chunky, imperfect forms into something more celebratory — part marching-band banner, part handmade parade sign, part rock & roll poster.
Built from bold, imperfect letterforms, Parade plays with stars, circles and cut-out shapes to create a typeface that feels loud, playful and a little unruly. The uppercase alphabet features hand-drawn star cutouts, while the lowercase keys reveal a second set of uppercase-style forms with circle cutouts — giving you two different ways to build words, mix characters and play with rhythm.
There’s something of a marching-band banner about Parade — letters made to be big, graphic and seen from across the room. It borrows from the visual language of parades, community celebrations, music, flags and handmade signage without belonging too neatly to any one era or place.
Parade isn't designed to behave like a perfectly polished digital typeface. Its uneven forms, shifting proportions and hand-drawn details are all part of its character. Mix the two alphabets, repeat letters, change the spacing and let things get a little weird.
This is an experimental display font made for fun — big words, bold graphics and designs that don't need to take themselves too seriously.
