Liberate | Hand Crafted Font

US$19.00

LIBERATE is a deliberately imperfect display font inspired by the history of quilting as protest and women’s craft as a form of liberation. It draws from stitched messages, patched fabrics, freedom quilts, protest banners, and hand-made archives — where letters were assembled slowly, collectively, and with intention.

Quilting has long been a language used when other forms of authorship were denied. During the women’s liberation movement, textile practices were reclaimed as acts of resistance rather than domestic obligation — work made by hand, shared in community, and used to say what could not always be spoken aloud. LIBERATE carries that spirit forward into type.

This all-caps display font is very imperfect by design. Letters sit slightly off-grid, edges wobble, spacing resists uniformity — honouring the truth of hand-cut fabric, patched seams, and movement-led making. The imperfections are intentional: they are part of the message.

Each letter feels constructed rather than drawn — assembled piece by piece, like a quilt. LIBERATE is not polished, neat, or neutral. It is expressive, human, and quietly defiant.

Perfect for:

• Protest posters and political graphics
• Community projects and activist design
• Editorial layouts and art publications
• Album artwork and music-led visuals
• Branding that values craft, care, and conviction

What’s included:

• Uppercase A–Z, Numbers 0–9, and very basic punctuation — simple, open letterforms without framing
• Lowercase a–z, Numbers 0–9, and very basic punctuation — characters built into block-quilt shapes
• An alternate, thinner uppercase style designed to introduce patchwork-like variation
• .otf font file only

Use the tester below to explore both uppercase and lowercase styles.

Important note:
LIBERATE is purposely imperfect. Some letters will appear slightly misaligned, uneven, or irregular in spacing. This is intentional and central to the spirit of the font — reflecting hand-made quilting, patchwork construction, and the visual language of protest.

LIBERATE is both a tool and a tribute — honouring women’s craft as a means of expression, resistance, and collective voice. Like liberation itself, it is built piece by piece.
